Suggested Test Dates and Score Requirements
The University of Chicago encourages students to take the GRE or TOEFL, as appropriate, by November 15 for the January deadline, or by March 1 for the May deadline.
Is the GRE required?
The GRE is not required to apply to the MACSS program, with the exception of individuals applying to the Economics track. Please note, the committee will utilize other resources such as courses completed to assess applicants quantitative skill set. If you are applying to MACSS-Econ, you must submit your GRE scores. The institution code is 1832.
What TOEFL or IELTS scores are required?
Students must score a minimum of 25 in each of the TOEFL sections, or a minimum of 7 in each section of the IELTS.
Students may take either the TOEFL iBT® Special Home Edition or the regular TOEFL exam.
For the IELTS, only the IELTS Academic exam is accepted.
Are conditional offers of admission made, pending improved scores on the TOEFL or IELTS exam?
Yes. Students will need to report the new scores by mid-June in order to receive their student visas in time for our summer programming.
