Mission

The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) at the University of Chicago increases knowledge and understanding of Latin American and Caribbean languages, histories, and cultures. CLACS supports interdisciplinary research through workshops and conferences and by providing financial support for faculty and graduate student work. We regularly host visiting scholars from Latin America and the Caribbean who enrich our research and teaching by providing new perspectives and insights on the region. The Center also reaches out to broader Chicago, regional, and national constituencies in order to expand the impact of the University’s Latin Americanist and Caribbeanist resources.
